A while back I had the thought that I wanted to shoot something a little more dreamy than your typical bridal portrait. I know a girl with the most beautiful red hair who inspired me to design a shoot with a different kind of bride. Once I found this dress on etsy, the rest just sort of fell into place. I purposely didn't bring a stylist in for this shoot because I wanted my model to do her own hair and makeup. It was important to me that she just looked like a girl playing dress up. I wanted the simple look of a dreamer. I expressed this to my model when designing the shoot, and she said, "It's so Anne of Green Gables." Exactly! She put into words exactly what I was envisioning.
I did this personal project because I want to inspire brides to think outside the box for their wedding day. Your dress doesn't have to be princess-like (or cost thousands of dollars) to be beautiful. Your hair doesn't have to be in a tight up-do to say "bridal." You don't even need to wear shoes! The most beautiful bridal portraits I've seen are the ones with brides who aren't afraid to buck tradition and do their own thing. When I was younger, Anne (spelled with an 'e') allowed me to escape into a gorgeous world filled with ice cream and lemonade, poetry, puffed sleeves, horse buggies, and the boy next door who grew up to be a doctor. Even while I was editing these, I couldn't help but daydream of Avonlea. In true Anne fashion...I hope these take you away like they do me.Special thanks to Katie for dreaming with me, lending me her gorgeous face, and running through the rain.
